Province of Pordenone

SPILIMBERGO

Spilimbergo is one of the most beautiful and interesting art cities in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and is located 20 minutes by car from Albergo ai Sapori, on the banks of the river Tagliamento. The city center retains the original medieval layout. The splendor of the past is revived every year in August by the historic reenactment of the Macia, an ancient unit of measurement for the fabrics reproduced on one of the palaces in Piazza del Duomo. In Spilimbergo is also the renowned mosaic school of Friuli, which is now internationally known.

VAL D’ARZINO

The Val d’Arzino is located in the Carnic Prealps in the province of Pordenone. It is crossed by the river Arzino, with its waterfalls just a few meters from the source. Water leaps alternate with large erosion basins and deep and green puddles. The waterfalls are easily accessible via a short and easy forest path that starts at the beginning of the Preone valley. The communities are characterized by a significant natural and historical heritage. A visit to the regional nature reserve of the Cornino Lake, which is characterized by the special transparency of the water in a beautiful blue-green color and can be reached by car in 10 minutes from the hotel is not to be missed. Born for the conservation of the Griffon Vulture, a vulture with a wing span of almost 3 meters and a weight of 8-10 kg.

MANIAGO

Maniago is located 30 minutes from Albergo ai Sapori and is known worldwide for the production of knives and cutting tools of all kinds. The building that housed the first large knife factory in Maniago since 1907 now houses the Museum of Factory Art and Cutlery in which jobs are reconstructed and the most important past and current productions of the industry are exhibited. Maniago, with its 12,000 inhabitants, is characterized by its large Piazza Italia, dominated by the most important historic buildings: the 15th-century Duomo in the late-Gothic Friulian style dedicated to San Mauro Martire, and the Palazzo D’Attimis Maniago, on whose walls is the Marciano Lion fresco, attributed to Pomponio Amalteo and testimony to the long Venetian rule. On a hill behind the palace there are the ruins of the old castle, probably built in the 11th century and finally abandoned in the 17th century.

POFFABRO

Poffabro is part of the municipality of Frisanco and can be reached by car in 40 minutes from Albergo ai Sapori. It is considered one of the hundred most beautiful villages in Italy and is an open-air museum in the heart of Val Colvera. Travel back in time thanks to the enchanting effect of the stones, the wooden balconies and the fenced courtyards or the long rows of houses from the 17th century. The beauty of the village lies in the modest reality of columns, stairs, balconies and stone arches, in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature.

LAGO DI BARCIS

The artificial lake of Barcis can be reached by car in 50 minutes from the Albergo ai Sapori in the heart of Valcellina and welcomes visitors with the green surroundings and clear waters. The lake is just a stone’s throw away from the Forra del Cellina nature reserve and the Prescudin forest and offers the possibility of various activities such as sailing, surfing, canoeing, kayaking, hovercraft, motor boating (in Barcis there is an international competition of this discipline) and diving. Do not miss the opportunity for free climbing, caving and paragliding. Barcis offers countless naturalistic excursions and bike routes for mountain bike enthusiasts and the opportunity to go fishing or just enjoy a pleasant stopover for a picnic.

DIGA DEL VAJONT

Erto is reachable by car in one hour and 20 minutes from Albergo ai Sapori and one of the towns of the Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites. Here is the Vajont Dam, which unfortunately was the scene of the tragedy caused by the landslip of Mount Toc in the artificial lake of the dam, causing death and devastation in the valley below. It was October 9, 1963.

In memory of the tragedy, the Vajont Museum has been established, which can be visited in the visitor center of the Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites of Erto and Casso. Since 2007, the dam has been open to the public.
